Akmal Blasts Pas Leaders For Mocking Thai Cambodia Peace Talks
Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh criticised an opposition leader for equating Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and other foreign leaders with animals.
He pointed out that while it was normal for politicians to have differences of opinion, Islam never teaches anyone to pray for the destruction of someone from their own religion or to insult others.
“There are some who prayed for his (Anwar’s) destruction, although we share the same religion.
“Some even equated him and other foreign leaders with animals, even though they actually held talks to end a war and save thousands of lives.
ADS“Base your arguments with facts, not emotions,” Akmal said on Facebook today.
While the Merlimau assemblyperson did not mention names, he appeared to be targeting PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari and Jasin MP Zulkifli Ismail.

PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli ShaariOver the weekend during the “Turun Anwar” rally, Zulkifli led a prayer seeking God’s intervention for the collapse of the Anwar-led administration.
Yesterday, MalaysiaDateline reported Fadhli getting berated by internet users after he uploaded a picture depicting a goat and sheep fighting over a banana, with a monkey presiding as a judge.
The Pasir Mas MP added the caption: “A monkey need not preside over the case involving a goat and sheep fighting over a banana”, while accompanying it with an article on the Thailand-Cambodia conflict.
The post is no longer available on Fadhli’s social media account.
Anwar mediates peace
Yesterday, Anwar successfully mediated an unconditional ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia, effective midnight, following peace talks organised by the Tambun MP in Putrajaya.
He said the ceasefire was among the understandings reached at the meeting attended by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai.
On that note, Akmal said that while he disagrees with Anwar on several issues, it was important to praise him when he does something right.
The Umno leader also said that if one cannot do something good, at the very least, the person should not stop others from doing good.
“The people want mature politics, not something shallow which would only make our minds weaker.
ADS“If politicians still engage in shallow politics, then don’t get surprised when the people start hating us,” he added.
Akmal’s similar transgressions
However, it should be noted that Akmal is no stranger to belittling his political rivals when cornered.
In January, he shared an image of a pig with a lion’s mane on social media, dubbing it a “new species”.
That was after he traded barbs with Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming regarding the issue of “ham” sandwiches sold at a KK Mart at the Universiti Malaya (UM) campus, which bore an unauthorised halal logo.
Akmal posted the picture to mock the DAP leader after the latter said, “Lions don’t argue with flies”. - Mkini
