Ahmad Entities Didn T Know Money Came From 1mdb
KUALA LUMPUR: Entities that allegedly received money linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) did not know about the funds’ origin, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (pic)
The Umno supreme council member, who represented 42 of the entities including from Umno, MCA, MIC and the IPF Building Fund, said the money received between 2012 and 2013 were from a political fund, which he claimed was permissible under Malaysian laws
“We did not know about the 1MDB link. For example, in 2012 there was no mention of such a case, ” Ahmad said
He added that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had acted beyond its powers in issuing compound notices to 80 entities over funds allegedly linked to 1MDB.“The SRC International and 1MDB trials are ongoing. It may go on for some time as I am sure they will go through the entire court system.
“Why is the MACC accusing us when the cases are still in court?” he asked.
Ahmad said Umno had appointed lawyers and planned to file a judicial review soon to seek an injunction on the compound notices until both cases were concluded
He said the 42 entities would also lodge police reports on the matter
Ahmad, who is also Pontian MP, said the groups were unhappy that some of them had to pay a penalty 2.5 times the amount they received while others would be paying more than the quantum
He cited entities such as the IPF and Bagan Serai Umno division, which were said to have received RM50,000 and RM100,000 respectively, but were directed to pay RM2.5mil each as penalty
On Oct 7, the MACC issued compound notices to 80 entities in abid to recover RM420mil. They were believed to have received RM500,000 to RM134mil from 1MDB.Among those requested to pay the fine were the Puteri Umno and Umno divisions of Sepang, Bandar Tun Razak, Batu, Johor Baru, Labis, Bakri, Pekan, Kuantan, Taiping, Bagan Serai and Machang
The MIC headquarters, Parti Rakyat Sarawak, Kedah PPP, Kedah Gerakan as well as Selangor and Kedah MCA have also been issued compound notices
