(Facebook pic)KUALA LUMPUR: Former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s phone has been seized by the police.
This came after he had given his statement for nearly two hours at the Dang Wangi police station today.
The Muar MP said the police, on the instructions of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), also took control of his Instagram and TikTok accounts.
The authorities are investigating a 45-second video Syed Saddiq made on April 28 following the death of cow’s milk trader A Ganapathy while in police custody.
“I’m not sure if confiscating my phone is legal, but I have left this matter to my lawyer.
“Why do they want to confiscate my phone?
“For me, this is unnecessary because I voluntarily allowed them to access my social media accounts,” he told reporters outside the police station.
Syed Saddiq said he was not blaming police, claiming that the action against him was a politically motivated move orchestrated by MCMC.
He also said it was possible that he could be summoned again to record another statement, adding that he was being investigated under Section 503 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
Ganapathy had died in hospital on April 18, more than a month after being taken there from the Gombak district police headquarters on March 8.
Two days ago, another death involving the same police station took place when 42-year-old security guard Sivabalan Subramaniam died less than an hour after being taken in. - FMT
