Activists Hang Trump Effigy In Kl Ahead Of Asean Summit

MALAYSIAN activists have stepped up protests against US President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit by hanging his effigy upside down near the US embassy along Jalan Tun Razak this morning.
The protest, spearheaded by activist coalition Gegar, condemned Trump as an “imperialist, warmonger, zionist and murderer”, and called on Malaysians to reject his participation in the ASEAN Summit scheduled in Kuala Lumpur this October.
The group has accused the Malaysian government of contradicting its pro-Palestine stance by welcoming Trump and US officials.
Gegar has been active in recent weeks with a string of demonstrations, including a disruption at the Intercontinental Hotel during a US Army regional conference from Sept 24 to 26. Earlier this month, its members also rallied at the TRX mall during the launch of the iPhone 17, waving Palestinian flags and chanting “Free Palestine”.
Separately, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed he spoke by phone with Trump on Sept 25. Their discussion centred on the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire, where Trump commended Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair in facilitating the agreement.
Anwar also met US trade representative Jamieson Greer in Putrajaya the same day, discussing efforts to enhance Malaysia-US trade and strategic ties within ASEAN. — Focus Malaysia
