Abang Jo Plays Uec Card Wants Sibu Folks To Be On Same Wavelength
SARAWAK POLLS | Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leader Abang Johari Abang Openg today reminded Chinese voters of his coalition's commitment towards ensuring Chinese education flourished in the state.
Stressing Sarawak's society was unique and that past successive state governments had supported Chinese education through government funding, now standing at RM10 million annually.
"Our Chinese brothers who place utmost emphasis on education are allowed to set up their own schools and promote Chinese education.
"Many non-Chinese sent their children to Chinese schools, including my nephew, for they know the quality of Chinese education is high," said Abang Johari.
He added that the Sarawak government had recognised the Unified Education Certificate (UEC) since the Adenan Satem administration for civil service jobs.
"You won't find this happening in other parts of the world, not even in Peninsular Malaysia. The federal government has not recognised UEC, not even when the Pakatan Harapan government said it wanted to recognise it.
"It is a loss for us in terms of human resource capital if we do not recognise UEC. The UEC holders will end up working in and contributing to other countries," said Abang Johari.
Abang Johari was speaking during the simultaneous launch of the Foochow Association Park and SJK(C) Dung San new school building at the Kingwood Hotel in Sibu today.
He urged voters in Sibu, which has several Chinese-majority constituencies, to be on the "same page" and "same wavelength" in order for the town to earn a "city status".
Abang Johari was alluding to the fact that Sibu voters have been consistently voting opposition members to office. - Mkini
