Mic Wants To Rope In Opposition For Cabinet Committee Funding For Indians
MIC president SA Vigneswaran said he wants to involve the opposition in the special cabinet committee on the development of the Indian community.
He added that he also plans to seek their involvement in a foundation that he has proposed to manage grants under the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) that has been plagued by claims of misappropriation.
"In the interest of the welfare and development of the Indian community in Malaysia, MIC is prepared to work with Indian leaders in the opposition.
"MIC feels there is a need for bipartisan cooperation between the Indian leaders in our party and in the opposition.
"I'm prepared to invite them to join the cabinet committee that will be formed.
"I will also invite the opposition to take part in the foundation that I have proposed to manage Mitra's funds," Vigneswaran (above) told journalists at the MIC annual general assembly (AGM) hosted at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, Vigneswaran in his policy speech earlier emphasised the need for a foundation to manage Mitra's funds.
"We see reports that every year, tens of millions of Mitra funds specially allocated for the Indian community is returned to the treasury because they were unused.
"Therefore, I propose we form a foundation so that the funds won't need to be returned and they can be channelled through the foundation," he said.
He said some RM400 million had been returned to the government and should be used for the Indian community. - Mkini
