Bernama reported that Malaysian activist Zizi Kirana was among those arrested by Israeli forces as of 6am.
Human rights activist Greta Thunberg was also detained.
Israel’s foreign ministry confirmed in a statement this morning that several GSF ships had been stopped and their passengers taken to a port in Israel.
In a Facebook post, it also uploaded a video clip of Thunberg together with several other detained GSF participants in safe condition.
A total of 17 Malaysians on board the GSF ships have lost contact with the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) in Sepang.
Bernama said that the GSF participants had reportedly been told “See you in jail” by the Israeli forces which intercepted the ships’ radio system before communication with SNCC was cut off.
Malaysian actress and activist Nurul Hidayah Mohd Amin, also known as Ardell Aryana, said in an Instagram story that the Israeli military had blocked the internet and jammed communications since 9pm Gaza time yesterday when her ship, Mikeno, entered the R3 red zone.
“I’m trying to hide my phone. Israeli forces are cutting all our internet lines… we’re trying to plug in offline. I’m just waiting for a chance to go live again. Pray for us and our friends,” she said.
SNCC previously confirmed that three GSF ships – Alma, Sirius and Adara – had been boarded by Israeli naval forces as of 4.30am Malaysian time. It said that a total of eight high-alert emergency signals were activated.
Alma had been carrying three Malaysian activists – Musa Nuwayri, Iylia Balqis and Sul Aidil – while Sirius had been carrying Haikal Abdullah, Muaz Zainal, Zulfadhli and Rusydi.
A total of 23 participants of the GSF convoy to Gaza are Malaysians. - FMT
