PUTRAJAYA: Former Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang has been appointed chairman of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) advisory board.The commission announced his appointment alongside the appointments of six board members yesterday. Their tenure is for two years effective May 21.“The appointments were made by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the advice of the Prime Minister in accordance with Section 13 of the MACC Act,” said the commission.Other members of the board included former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar, former Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang and former Transparency International Malaysia president Datuk Seri Akhbar Satar.Also appointed to the board were The IA Group managing director Datuk Dr Hamzah Kassim, DC&A Group managing director Datuk David Chua Kok Tee and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia academician Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff.Twelve individuals – made up of professionals, academicians and media personnel – were also named new members of the MACC Consultation and Prevention of Corruption Panel (PPPR).Chairing the PPPR is former Public Service director-general Tan Sri Borhan Dollah.Those appointed to this panel include Malaysian Press Institute chairman Datuk Chamil Wariya, Universiti Malaya’s Prof Dr Edmund Terence Gomez and Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association lead activist Datuk Nadzim Johan.The appointment of the PPPR members is effective from June 1, 2020 to May 31, 2022.MACC also announced the appointment of five members to its Operations Evaluation Panel, including former deputy head of Prosecution Division II in the Attorney General’s Chambers Datuk Ahmad Rosli Mohd Sham who will chair the panel.The five members’ tenure is from April 1, 2020, to May 30, 2022.
