50 More Expected To Be Questioned Over Anti Azam Rally

About 500 people had taken part in the #TangkapAzamBaki rally near the Bangsar LRT station in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.KUALA LUMPUR: Several political party youth leaders and activists who attended a ceramah on Friday in advance of the #TangkapAzamBaki rally were questioned by police today over their involvement in the event.
Muda vice-president Dr Thanussha Francis Xavier, who was among the 12 questioned today, said police had identified more than 50 protesters who took part in the rally and would call them soon.
Among those questioned today were Amanah Youth leader Mohd Hasbie Muda, his deputy Zubair Rahim, strategy director Asmaaliff Abdul Adam, and committee member Abbas Azmi.
The others were DAP Youth chief Howard Lee, PKR Youth secretary Ahmad Syukri Abd Razab, PKR member and activist Adam Adli Abdul Halim, Jalinan Nusantara Malaysia chairman Mohd Azam Mektar, International Islamic University Malaysia lecturer Abu Hafiz Salleh Hudin, lawyer Bakri Omar and social media activist Amira Aisha.
Thanussha told FMT that statements were taken from the 12 on their involvement in the ceramah as well as on the protest. However, this evening Brickfields police chief Amihizam Abdul Shukor said this evening that 19 activists have had their statements recorded.
Friday’s ceramah, known as Pentas Anak Muda, was to call for public participation at the rally at the Bangsar LRT station on Saturday. The rally was to demand the arrest of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Alam Baki, who is involved in a share ownership controversy.
Thanussha accused the authorities of practising a double standard in the investigation.
“A thorough effort is being put in place when it comes to the investigation against activists and protesters but not against Azam,” she said.
“We will keep fighting to ensure Azam is investigated fairly despite these police intimidation tactics,” she said.
The rally on Saturday had drawn the participation of 35 societies and political parties PKR, DAP, Amanah, Pejuang, Muda and Warisan. - FMT
