Bukit Aman CID director Huzir Mohamed said 29 suspected members of the organised crime groups believed to be involved in the shooting of a businessman and his bodyguard in Banting had been detained on Oct 13 and Oct 14, but there was insufficient evidence to charge them.
He said the 29 had been detained under Section 130V and Chapter VIB of the Penal Code.
“At the time, investigations were also conducted under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) which allowed them to be detained for 28 days.
“The investigation paper was referred to the attorney-general’s office but the evidence was insufficient to prosecute them,” he said in a statement.
Huzir said the arrest of the 25 was carried out yesterday to maintain peace and public order.
“Investigations found that the TCB 21 gang is a secret society active in committing serious crimes such as attempted murder using firearms, robbery, sabotage and extortion,” he said.
