122 991 Active Covid 19 Cases Nationwide


 
Among the COVID-19 patients who attended the COVID-19 Assessment Center (CAC) for a health check-up in Putrajaya. - NSTP/MOHD FADLI HAMZAHKUALA LUMPUR: The number of active Covid-19 cases jumped to 122,991 on Friday after more than 20,000 new infections were reported as of noon yesterday.
Data on CovidNow showed that 90.5 per cent of the cases (111,323) are observing home quarantine, 4.9 per cent (6,001) are at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC), 4.5 per cent (5,512) are being treated at hospitals, and 0.2 per cent (155) have been admitted at intensive care units (ICU).
Covid-19 claimed 24 lives on Friday, taking the death toll from the coronavirus to 32,099 since the pandemic struck the nation in 2020.
Of the fatalities yesterday, nine were brought-in-dead cases, including three in Kedah, two each in Johor and Perak, as well as one each in Negri Sembilan and Terengganu.
The national infectivity rate, Rt, meanwhile stayed at 1.51 yesterday, with Labuan remaining as the territory with the highest Rt at 2.31.
Based on data shared by Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Sarawak had the second-highest Rt at 1.82, followed by Sabah at 1.65.
Perlis logged an Rt of 1.51 followed by Penang at 1.45; 1.43 in Putrajaya; 1.41 in Kelantan; 1.39 in Terengganu; 1.38 in Johor; 1.37 in both Kedah and Negri Sembilan; 1.34 in Pahang; 1.30 in Melaka; 1.29 in Selangor; 1.26 in Perak and 1.24 in Kuala Lumpur.
The positivity rate was at 5.8 per cent on Feb 9.
On the healthcare system utilisation, 65.9 per cent of hospital beds are utilised, 64.1 per cent of PKRC beds are occupied, 51.9 per cent of ICU beds are utilised and 33.2 per cent of ventilators are in use.
Melaka was the state with the highest hospital bed utilisation rate at 83.2 per cent, followed by Johor (79.1 per cent), Negri Sembilan (77.7 per cent), Kedah (76.4 per cent) and Penang (75.4 per cent).
Meanwhile, 40 per cent of Malaysia's total population or 13,068,547 people nationwide have received their third vaccine dose after 137,912 booster shots were administered yesterday.
Almost 100,000 children aged five to 11-years-old have also taken their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine nationwide. - NST
