Lavish Dining Trend In Makkah Sparks Criticism Online

WHAT is the cost of enjoying a luxury meal in a spiritual space such as Makkah? Probably more than just a dent in your credit card, but some respect points too.
Take it from a netizen who recently highlighted a trend where influencers could be seen dining lavish at a posh location overlooking the grounds of Makkah.
But is the online community impressed? From the comments, the answer appears to be a big no. “Wow, dystopian,” said @nadirabid while @_roshaanzafar claimed the Kaaba is starting to look like a commercial place.

Also, @JuwayriyyahAlam pointed out that the food might look nice in the video, but in fact, they were simply buffet style.
“Is there some status thing in Mecca to having a meal by yourself with enough food for half a dozen people? By western standards that’s just deeply sad,” said @sdmat123.
As usual, the picture comments hit the hardest:
For a spiritual journey, it sure is filled with materialism for some people. However, a handful of netizens thought it wasn’t a big issue.
“What exactly is the issue with eating food near the holy Kaaba site? Do you expect people to starve just to satisfy you, or would you rather Muslims engage in Shia-style shirk rituals by the Kaaba to make you happy?” said @Tuwa1q.

On another note, is it such a crime to be enjoying oneself during a holiday as pointed out by a netizen? While the short video did not reveal the location of the diner, a quick search on google revealed several luxury restaurants with views of the Kaaba.
They are located within hotels that are part of the Abraj AI Bait complex, such as AL MAJLIS, AL DIRA, and Al Shorfa. Time to dine with style, by try not to flaunt your wealth while you are doing it. — Focus Malaysia
