Zaliha Hopes Dzulkefly Will Realise Plans In Health White Paper
Former health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa was named the Federal Territories minister in a Cabinet reshuffle announced earlier today.PETALING JAYA: Former health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa hopes her successor Dzulkefly Ahmad will work to realise plans underlined in the health white paper that was passed in Parliament earlier this year.
“This (implementing the initiatives) is to ensure that health services are accessible and affordable as well as future proof,” she told FMT.
Dzulkefly, who was the health minister under the Pakatan Harapan administration in 2018, was re-appointed to the post earlier today in a Cabinet reshuffle, which saw Zaliha named as the Federal Territories minister.
On June 15, the Dewan Rakyat passed the health white paper which detailed the challenges faced by the healthcare sector, as well as the policy, strategy and direction for healthcare system reforms to be implemented over the next 15 years.
The upper house approved it 11 days later.
The main reforms listed in the 57-page document include transforming healthcare service delivery; enhancing health promotion and disease prevention at all levels; ensuring sustainable and equitable healthcare financing; and strengthening the foundation and governance of the healthcare system.
The reforms will be carried out in different phases, with short-term initiatives to take one to five years, followed by medium-term (six to 10 years) and long-term (11 to 15 years).
Zaliha said she was confident that Dzulkefly would carry out his responsibilities in his second stint as health minister to the best of his abilities.
“I am sure he will be able to do so due to his past experience.” - FMT
