Zaid Says Pas Won T Destroy Durian Farms Punish Whistleblowers
Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim doubled down on his backing for PAS, stressing the party genuinely cares for the well-being of Malaysians.
Citing the plight of Raub durian farmers as an example, he said PAS would never level their farms just to show dominance.
As for the Sabah corruption scandal, he said PAS would not prosecute genuine whistleblowers over technicalities.
“It would not bulldoze 30-year-old durian trees just to assert power, but would negotiate based on economic and communal considerations.
“And it would not prosecute genuine whistleblowers simply because they do not meet the technicalities of flawed laws.
“Instead, it would assess the matter from the standpoint of public interest and moral justice,” he said on Facebook today.

The Raub durian farm, which is at the centre of a disputeThe long-standing dispute between the authorities and durian farmers in Raub, Pahang, resulted in a clash on April 10 when the former attempted to clear the Musang King trees.
A few days later, Raub MP Chow Yu Hui and Save Musang King Alliance (Samka) chairperson Wilson Chang were detained for allegedly obstructing public servants from performing their duties.
Yesterday, the lawyer representing the whistleblower who exposed the Sabah corruption scandal decried the authorities’ decision to charge his client on June 30.
“At this juncture, I must make clear that without my client, the entire Sabah corruption scandal would not have even been investigated by MACC.
“My client’s disclosures, at serious personal risk, have greatly benefited the public interest.
“It is shocking and disappointing that my client is to be ‘rewarded’ with being charged with a criminal offence,” lawyer Mahajoth Singh added.
ADSGenuine fear of God
Zaid mentioned there is one aspect of PAS which proved to be the party members’ greatest asset, which would also benefit the country - their genuine fear of God.
The former Kota Bharu MP stated that for too long, Malaysia had endured leaders who were not only incompetent but had also abused their powers for greed and political ambitions.

“And perhaps, under PAS, our public institutions might finally be freed from the stranglehold of political interference. Think about it,” Zaid added.
Yesterday, Zaid said PAS could take Malaysia to greater heights, provided it combines its moral clarity with good governance and inclusivity.
“History has shown us that clerical leadership can steer nations through immense adversity. Just look at Iran.
“Guided by its Council of Guardians - religious scholars with deep ideological conviction - Iran not only survived but asserted its independence despite decades of war and crippling sanctions from global superpowers,” he stated. - Mkini
