Zahid Wants Umno Ministers To Push For Rci Over Ex Igp Ag S Revelations
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged cabinet ministers from the party to push for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into the explosive allegations by former top cop Abdul Hamid Bador.
He also suggested an RCI into the claims made by former attorney-general (AG) Tommy Thomas as well.
“I agree with Umno Youth’s stance to urge the government to expedite RCIs into the revelations by Thomas and Hamid Bador.
“The revelations from both these former chiefs who previously led two important government organisations are very serious, especially those involving political interference and corruption in institutions that are meant to defend our Federal Constitution, rule of law and national security.
“I will ask ministers who represent Umno to bring this suggestion to the government so that immediate action can be taken,” said Zahid in a statement today.
The nine Umno ministers in the cabinet are Ismail Sabri (defence), Noraini Ahmad (higher education), Annuar Musa (federal territories), Hishammuddin Hussein (foreign affairs), Halimah Mohamad Saddique (national unity), Reezal Merican (youth and sports), Shamsul Anuar Nasarah (energy and natural resources), Dr Adham Baba (health) and Khairy Jamaluddin (science, technology and innovation).
In his last press conference as the inspector general of police, Hamid alleged that Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin had interfered in the transfers and appointments of senior police officers.
Weeks before he retired, he claimed a “cartel” within the force had conspired to topple him and take control of the police force.
Aside from Umno, the Bar Council, civil society groups and DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang have also called for an RCI into these claims.
Earlier this year, Thomas published a memoir that included startling claims from his 20-month tenure as the AG.
Among them was that then-home minister Muhyiddin Yassin had attempted to interfere in the court case involving the 12 charged for allegedly supporting defunct terrorist group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. Muhyiddin is now the prime minister.
Thomas also said that a cabinet-endorsed decision to establish an RCI into alleged corruption in the judiciary had been put on the back burner. - Mkini
