Zahid Says He Met Wee Will Convince Mca To Support Kkb Polls
BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today said he will work to convince MCA to assist in the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
He revealed that he has met with MCA president Wee Ka Siong who previously said the Chinese party would not help to campaign for a Pakatan Harapan candidate.
“I have met Wee Ka Siong. I understand the situation that he faced when the statement was made,” said the Umno president, who was speaking after a Hulu Selangor Umno Hari Raya open house in Kuala Kubu Baharu, Selangor.
Meanwhile, Zahid reaffirmed Umno’s position to respect seats already won by parties in government.
“So our decision is to support any candidate in the name of the unity government, who will be announced by the chairperson,” he said, referring to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim as Harapan chairperson.
“If there were any problems and statements made, my view is that those are stands taken by individual parties and I hope it will be temporary.
“If those statements were made due to feelings hurt by statements of other component parties, I hope the matter can be resolved,” he added.
Separately, Utusan Malaysia quoted Umno vice-president Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail as urging MCA and MIC to reconsider their decisions and ensure a victory for the government.
Wan Rosdy said while he respected their decisions to boycott the polls, MCA and MIC must accept any candidate to be fielded in the seat.
“In celebrating a more mature new politics, particularly after GE15, BN components including Umno must accept this change that we have agreed to upon the formation of the unity government,” he said.
He added that the decisions by MCA and MIC to boycott the by-election were unlikely to benefit the parties but alienate them from the people. - Mkini
