Zahid Can Be Removed As President Via No Confidence Vote Says Noh
Former party leader Noh Omar (left) said the support of two-thirds of the Umno Supreme Council members would be needed to remove president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.PETALING JAYA: The Umno Supreme Council can remove Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as party president via a no-confidence vote, says former party leader Noh Omar.
However, he said this was unlikely to happen as anyone pushing for it would not get a two-thirds majority to do so.
Kosmo! reported Noh as saying that the support of two-thirds of the council members would be needed to oust Zahid.
“Based on my experience, it would not be easy to obtain such a majority,” Noh, a former Supreme Council member, was quoted as saying.
Noh, who was sacked from the party in January, said the council did not just comprise the 25 who were elected to the posts but also those who had been appointed.
“Council members who are appointed will not go along with those who were elected,” he said, referring to a possible push by elected Supreme Council members to unseat Zahid.
Zahid and his deputy, Mohamad Hasan, will retain Umno’s top two posts after a no-contest motion was passed for the presidency and deputy presidency at the party’s general assembly.
Noh also said he would return to the party once Zahid was no longer at the helm.
“I can only make a comeback once he is replaced as he was the one who sacked me, not the disciplinary board or the Supreme Council.”
Separately, the former Selangor Umno chief said several parties were wooing him and that he was mulling over their offers.
“But I am a ‘player’, not a spectator,” he said, adding that he would choose a party closer to the state elections. - FMT
