Xi Hopes For 50 Golden Years Of China Malaysia Relations

KUALA LUMPUR: Chinese president Xi Jinping says he hopes his state visit to Malaysia will further strengthen ties between the two nations and usher in “50 golden years” in China-Malaysia relations.
In a written statement upon his arrival at KLIA earlier today to begin his three-day state visit, Xi said he was confident that his visit would be fruitful.
“With this visit, I hope to deepen our traditional friendship, enhance political trust, advance cooperation, promote mutual learning, and elevate efforts in building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future,” he said.
“I am confident that with our combined efforts, this visit will yield encouraging results.
“Together, we will open a new chapter in good neighbourly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation, and begin another era of ’50 golden years’ in China-Malaysia relations,” he said in the statement released by the Chinese embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
Last year marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia.
Xi noted that the diplomatic ties established over half a century ago have become a model of state-to-state relations based on respect, trust, and cooperation for mutual benefit.
He also expressed his appreciation to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim for officially inviting him to visit Malaysia, adding that his first visit to the country 12 years ago left him with “unforgettable memories”.
“Returning today brings warmth to my heart. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, I would like to extend my sincere greetings and best wishes to the Malaysian government and people.
“During this visit, I will exchange views with Sultan Ibrahim and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of shared concern.
“Both China and Malaysia are major developing countries and members of the Global South, (and) strengthening our high-level strategic cooperation serves our mutual interests and contributes to regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity.” - FMT
