Wish Come True Malaysians To Fulfill Sacred Vows Made For Anwar
Malaysians who took to social media to declare their nazar in hopes Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim become prime minister will now have to fulfil their sacred vows as he has been announced as the 10th PM.
Nazar in Islam refers to a sacred vow one makes to God, which is fulfilled if prayer is granted.
It typically involves giving up something cherished, like shaving one's hair or giving to charity.
Among those making such a vow is a 25-year-old digital marketer, who only wants to be known as Rizwan.
If Anwar is appointed PM, he vowed to give free lessons on how to use Facebook and Instagram advertisements to 10 people.
Saya buat kelas belajar buat Facebook/Instagram Ads percuma untuk 10 orang.
— Rizwan | Casper (@rizwanabdullah_) November 23, 2022"I have been a fan of Anwar since I was in high school," he told Malaysiakini.
It all started when he watched videos of Anwar's speeches to prepare for a debate competition.
"The more I study about his contributions, his political life, his international relations with other leaders, the more I adore him (and want him) as a leader to lead Malaysia," he said.
While most who shared their vows on social media are Muslim, the move has also inspired their non-Muslim counterparts.
@ksampoh - Botakkan kepala &Prayers At Batu Caves
— ksampoh@MyOwn Inc (@ksampoh) November 23, 2022A 58-year-old man, who only wanted to be known by his Twitter handle @ksampoh, vowed to shave his head and offer prayers at the Batu Caves Hindu temple.
He said he has followed Anwar's career since the 1980s -especially after he started attending Form 6 at a school founded by the Islamic Youth Movement of Malaysia (Abim) - because he did not do well enough to continue at a public school.
Anwar was active in Abim as a youth leader and paid for this man's school fees and school books.
"Anwar was very humble and supported my studies... Since that day, I became his supporter from afar," he said.

Others vowed to fast for a certain number of days or donate a certain sum to the mosque, every week after Friday prayers.
"I will go bald once Anwar takes the oath as the 10th prime minister.
"My hair is long and down to my neck, I feel bad cutting it. But I will do so for Anwar," the social media user, who goes by the Twitter handle @happykhairul declared.
