Threads platform user @aidlmrsykr, who stopped at the station while travelling, said he was taken aback when he noticed the liquid soap dispenser tightly secured with steel wires and a heavy-duty padlock, as though it were a high-value item.
"Are you serious, Petronas? What if someone's hand gets stuck in there? Is there really anyone out there trying to steal the soap," he wrote.
-Advertisement-The post quickly gained traction, with many Malaysians commenting that petty theft of basic amenities at public facilities has become increasingly common.
Others reacted with humour, joking that the dispenser looked like it was being detained.
User @nrsyazwnni said: "Because it's been stolen before, that's why the petrol station did that… Especially if you put soap that doesn't stick like this. It disappears quickly."
User @hasrifurqon wrote: "This soap dispenser is the easiest to steal and often gets stolen at petrol stations."
User @ohhanisss said: "Yes, sometimes you have to lock it because even the soap containers get stolen. In my place, 'gayung' and pails have also gone missing many times, so we have to tie them up." - NST
