Why Is Green Lung Being Degazetted Kepong Mp Asks Minister
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng wants federal territories minister Annuar Musa to explain the short objection period for the project.PETALING JAYA: Federal territories minister Annuar Musa has been asked to explain the reported degazettement of a green area bordering the Kepong and Batu constituencies in Kuala Lumpur.
It has been reported that the authorities have begun degazetting the land meant for public use to make way for a mixed development project, which also involves an affordable housing scheme.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng questioned why the land was degazetted without much publicity, asking if the authorities planned to silently proceed with the project.
The DAP leader also asked if the project was awarded through open tender since it reportedly was a joint venture between a private developer and the government, and wanted the name of the developer revealed.
“Although the authorities’ process of degazetting the land was done legitimately, why was such a short period of time given for objections to the project?
A report in StarMetro said stakeholders have only been given until Jan 26 to voice their objections.
“Is this a trick from the authorities to ensure that few people may submit their objections, especially during the second movement control order (MCO)?
“The minister must come forward and answer these questions and give a detailed explanation,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Lim also said he would report the matter to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) if no answers were given, calling for transparency from the authorities on developments in Kuala Lumpur.
FMT is attempting to contact Annuar for comment. - FMT
