Why Don T Non Malays Support You Puad Turns Tables On Mca
Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi has defended the party’s firebrand youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh against allegations of racism and turned the tables on MCA instead.
ADSEmphasising that the Merlimau assemblyperson is not a racist, he asked: “What proof is there that non-Malays dislike Akmal?”
Responding to MCA vice-president Tan Teik Cheng, he urged the BN component party to reflect on its waning political influence.
“Tan should ask why non-Malays do not support MCA,” he added in a social media post.
Commenting on Akmal’s tirades, Puad said the youth chief was responding to those who trampled on the sensitivities of Islam and the Malays.
“He was not the one who initiated the controversies. He acted due to the negligence of others who were insensitive. His actions, whether through a boycott or a police report, did not break any laws. Akmal is not racist,” he stressed.
‘Racist act’
In the latest controversy surrounding a Facebook post by a Johor MCA leader, Puad has argued that labelling Akmal as “irrational” or “crazy” is, in fact, a more racist act.
“MCA should not be seen as siding with individuals or groups that initiate religious or racial controversies.
Dr Akmal Saleh“Even MCA knows that being racist does not guarantee non-Malay support for the party. There are other reasons for that. Find those reasons. Look within and reflect,” he added.
Yesterday, Akmal said he would initiate legal action against Johor MCA deputy publicity chief Law Yiak Kwang over the latter’s Facebook postings in Chinese.
One of those postings was translated as referring to Akmal as a “crazy Malay”.
Law, however, clarified that “癫马” was a common phrase on social media that meant - “Akmal who always acts irrationally”.
ADSFollowing this, the MCA vice-president urged Akmal to reflect on why non-Malays have a negative perception of him.
Law Yiak Kwang“Akmal’s words and actions have repeatedly triggered discontent among the non-Malay community.
“This is not just Law’s personal opinion or that of any MCA member - it reflects the broader perception of non-Malays towards him.
“Akmal’s attitude not only damages the relationship between BN component parties but also undermines BN’s efforts to gain support from the non-Malay community,” said Tan. - Mkini
