Who Is Who In The Datuk Roy Corruption Case
A series of corruption charges linked directly or indirectly to the Jana Wibawa government programme to empower bumiputera contractors continues to hog the headlines.
Among those facing corruption charges are Bersatu chief Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also Perikatan Nasional chairperson, and Bersatu supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan.
Amid these cases was the charging of an MACC officer and one “Datuk Roy” yesterday, for allegedly taking bribes in connection with the MACC's investigation into Muhyiddin's son, Fakhri Yassin.
Fakhri is not the only person with familial ties to Muhyiddin linked to the case.
Who is who, and how are they linked?
Fakhri Yassin Mahiaddin
Fakhri, 48, is Muhyiddin's first-born son who was mentioned in the charge sheet of the Datuk Roy case.
According to the charge sheet, a bribe was paid to rescue Fakhri from being remanded.
It was paid on March 6, within weeks of the first Jana Wibawa cases being brought to court.
Fakhri was called up for questioning during an MACC investigation, but the reason for this has not been disclosed. He was not arrested nor charged with corruption.
Siti Dalena and Syed Farid Al Attas
Siti Dalena, 47, is related to the Muhyiddin family through marriage.
Her brother, Adlan Berhan, is married to Muhyiddin's daughter, Nabilah.
Neither Adlan or Nabilah was named in the charge sheets.
Dalena is married to Syed Farid, 41, and the couple's names were mentioned in the charge sheets against "Datuk Roy" yesterday, for giving bribes to try to save their relatives from action by the authorities, in March.
In one charge, Datuk Roy is accused of soliciting RM400,000 from Dalena, and received RM240,000 from her husband, Syed Farid, as inducement not to remand Fakhri.
In another charge, Datuk Roy is accused of soliciting a bribe of RM2 million from the couple, to reduce charges against Bersatu Segambut information chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad.
Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad
The 42-year-old businessman is Dalena and Adlan's cousin, according to business news website Focus Malaysia.
In February, he was charged with five counts of corruption involving more than RM6 million, related to Jana Wibawa.
He was charged with receiving RM4.1 million from two firms to help them get contracts for a road in Perlis and building a police headquarters in Selangor.
The contracts were worth RM47.8 million and RM141 million respectively.
The two firms were MIE Infrastructure and Energy Sdn Bhd and Nepturis Sdn Bhd.
He is accused of receiving lump sum payments and soliciting a percentage of the contract value as kickback.
Datuk Roy
Datuk Roy, or his real name, Mohd Hussein Mohd Nasir, was charged with two charges involving seeking and receiving a bribe to stop Fakhri from being remanded, and reducing charges against Adam Radlan, according to the charge sheets.
He claimed trial to the charges yesterday, alongside senior MACC officer Mohd Rasyidi Mohd Said.
He is reported to be the ringleader of a gang impersonating MACC officers, to solicit inducement to reduce charges or free those investigated for corruption.
In 2020, the MACC confirmed that it had arrested individuals believed to be part of the "Datuk Roy gang", for soliciting bribes to resolve MACC cases.
Notably, this was more than two years before Datuk Roy met with Dalena and Syed Farid in March 2023. - Mkini
