Whistleblower Edisi Siasat Sensationalises Scandals Says Igp
Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani says police have received 11 reports against the ‘Edisi Siasat’ account.PETALING JAYA: Police are tracking down individuals behind the “whistleblower” Twitter account Edisi Siasat, saying that most of the allegations of scandals among the authorities have been sensationalised.
Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said police have received 11 reports against the account, which tweets information on alleged corruption and abuse of power involving government agencies.
“We are still investigating to find who the individuals are behind the Edisi Siasat Twitter account,” Acryl Sani told reporters at the launch of the police online scam awareness campaign in Kuala Lumpur today.
As for allegations against the police force, he said, they will be channelled to Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department for a thorough investigation.
Acryl Sani also said online purchase scams are on the rise this year and may double the number reported last year.
As of October, there have been nearly 9,000 reported cases, compared with about 6,000 last year and only 2,000 in 2019.
He said the victims have suffered about RM60 million in total losses associated with the scams so far this year.
“This campaign is timely as we find that scams involving online purchases using the internet as a platform is on the rise,” he said.
Acryl Sani said there is also a possibility of many unreported cases involving smaller amounts of money.
He urged victims to report such cases regardless of the amount involved so police can update their database. - FMT
