Where S The New Tariff Gobind
IT'S almost year end but the government has yet to announce the new tariff that will turnaround Pos Malaysia dismay run. After a decade, it has been 'forced' to ride on old postal tariffs when other similar companies around the world are enjoying big bucks on the back of enhanced services.
Earlier this month, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the government has agreed to revise the rates pending final decision by the authorities, especially the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
In my earlier posting, I questioned the MCMC for treating Pos Malaysia as a second-class business for dragging its feet on the predicament faced by the postal company and its about 30,000 staff nationwide.
I also took hints that pointed to some people in MCMC wanting to glorify themselves and playing politics, and it seemed that their main attraction was companies making money and helped them 'pay their bills'. Could be, but I hope not.
Earlier, Nikkei Asian Review reported that the government has approved a proposal from the listed national postal service company to raise rates, and that Pos Malaysia was expected to announce the changes soon. The changes include increase in tariffs, changes in the tariff structure, and deregulation in some segments. However, it never came. Maybe not just yet but Pos Malaysia needs to engage a clearer and better business future. Now, what's keeping the MCMC? For sure Gobind is already 'in the know' by now. Anything?I just wanna keep on scribbling about the fate of Pos Malaysia because it was treated like a 'cheapskate' all this while by the then and present government. The regulatory body has also been sleeping on the job for failing to recognise the importance of postal service in Malaysia and the region.I would also like to question MCMC why must it licensed some other companies to carry out a much similar job to that if Pos Malaysia but let the national postal company to attend to 'dirty last-mile delivery'?Hey, Pos Malaysia is similar to Tenaga Nasional, Telekom Malaysia and other privatized entities but never got a fair treatment from the government. When water and electricity tariffs were revised every few years, postal services were sidelined.Any tangible explanation?
