Where S The Logic Hanipa Pans Muhyiddin S Anti Kleptocrat Stance
Amanah's Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin has criticised outgoing prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin's apparent inconsistent position on fighting "kleptocrats".
Hanipa said while Muhyiddin had touted his days in Umno where he was sacked because he was steadfast against "kleptocrats" in Umno, the Pagoh MP had no qualms about forming an alliance with them when he launched a coup against the Pakatan Harapan government in 2020.
More recently, Hanipa said Muhyiddin flayed the "kleptocrats" after losing his majority in the Dewan Rakyat but had no qualms joining with them to support Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the next prime minister.
"He and his fellow MPs can support the prime ministerial candidate and have no problems perpetuating the kleptocratic government.
"May I know, what kind of logic is this?" Hanipa said in a statement.
Hanipa questioned what message the country is sending to the world if the same government responsible for overthrowing the democratically elected Pakatan Harapan government is reappointed.
The Perikatan Nasional government came to power in 2020 after Muhyiddin pulled his party out of the Harapan government in February 2020.

Together with a group of PKR defectors led by Azmin Ali, they formed the new government with the opposition including Umno.
However, Muhyiddin excluded Umno MPs with graft charges from occupying positions in government.
On Aug 3, 15 out of Umno's 38 MPs withdrew their support for Muhyiddin, causing him to lose his majority. A number of the 15 Umno leaders are facing graft charges.
After the withdrawal, Muhyiddin only commanded the support of 100 MPs out of 220. There are also two vacant seats in the Dewan Rakyat.
During his exit speech, Muhyiddin declared that he could have remained in power if he compromised with "kleptocrats" but instead chose to stick by his principles.
A total of 14 out of the 15 MPs returned to PN's fold after it was agreed that Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri will take over from Muhyiddin, who is the Bersatu president.
This means the composition of Ismail Sabri's support will be identical to Muhyiddin's before his ouster. - Mkini
