We Need The King S Wisdom
ENTERING the fifth day without a legitimate government. The whole world is watching us. I dont know what's the exact losses at the stocks market but Bursa Malaysia is said to have succumbed to a seven-year low today.
Foreign investors are shying away from the market on the back of uncertainties plaguing the nation. Who would put their money here?
Dr Mahathir (what do you mean by an 'interim prime minister') seems to have from a hero to a villain while Azmin Ali is set to become the biggest loser in a game put up by the premier.
With just 54 seats for Mahathir today, Anwar Ibrahim 92, Barisan Nasional 80 and the rest Independent MPs, the Yang Dipertuan Agong (I believe) would not let the vacuum extended for another day or two. The country must be administered and the people must get back to business.
However, who? To garner a simple majority of 112 seats at the Parliament seems elusive to all. Will Dr M go back to UMNO and PAS to provide him with enough support? But he wants individuals, not the party, and I think UMNO presiden Zahid Hamidi is aware of that.
Hadi Awang of PAS remains committed with Muafakat Nasional to not provide that support to Dr M if he wants to proceed with his 'Unity Government' (what?).
Dr M only needs numbers, not the party. Anwar too needs 20 more but that too is hard to get unless there is enough money to 'buy out' some MPs from UMNO, PAS or others, which I found is not going to happen.
There are more questions than answers to this episode. Maybe Dr M wants to shut Anwar out.. but he already made a promise to make Anwar his successor. His 'after Apec' promise which had made Anwar sigh with relief recently is now making Anwar hates his boss more.
UMNO sec-gen said yesterday that the party, BN components and PAS have withdrawn their support for Mahathir because of the Unity Government plan. Which means, UMNO, BN and PAS are more than willing to sit on the Opposition bench until the next general election.
Having a Unity Government (to many) is against the principle of democracy. Where the Opposition when all parties have their representative in the government. Who wants to do the check and balance, according to MCA president Wee Ka Siong.
DAP surely will be there, which is against Muafakat Nasional stand.
So, let's just wait for the wisdom of the King. Although a fresh general election is the best answer, I believe all parties are not ready for it although the rakyat is.
This is Dr M's play. He created it but emerged as a loser. 'He who dig a pit for his brother will himself fall into it' - I remember learning that in the primary school!
