Ways To Boost Your Wifi Signal
You feel a sense of dread when your connection grinds to a slowdown or halt after you just purchased a Jom Apply tm plan unifi. It was only twelve hours after your purchase too. Before you pick up the phone and dial the number, ask yourself: Can you try to remedy the problem first?
It is possible, and lucky for you, there are a few methods you can use to boost your WiFi signal. If one or more fixes the problem, that call won’t be necessary for now.
Move your router
Did you install your router in a cupboard, shelf or any other enclosed space? Bad move. A router is always installed in open spaces for a reason. Any barriers at its vicinity such as walls and cupboards can dampen its WiFi signal. The ideal places to place your router in your home would be a living room and a dry kitchen or just the dining area.
If you want to place your router upstairs, only do so in the living hall, otherwise scratch that option. Wireless routers shouldn’t be placed near microwave ovens or it will leak electromagnetic waves at 2.4 Ghz. Other devices with similar waves include baby monitors and wireless keyboards.
If you are using a wired router, you must either have a long Ethernet cable or multiple network posts at home.
Use an Ethernet cable
Despite the wide usage of WiFi, Ethernet cables are still used today, especially when a faster and more stable Internet connection is needed. Though it is less convenient and your device is restricted to where it is connected to, it is still a preferable option when, for instance, you want to play an online game without being bogged by lags or latency.
Secure your WiFi with a password
Although a password obviously serves to protect your WiFi from being used by anybody else outside your home, this measure also ensures that the signal remains strong and isn’t swamped by unwanted guests. If you leave the WiFi’s door open, you will not even realize the exact number of people using and clogging your connection like a drain. Also never hide your SSID, as unlike your encrypted password, it has minor security value, and some tests proved that hiding it can affect your WiFi’s signal speed.
Use extenders
Tired of messing with your WiFi’s settings to stabalize the connection? Consider spending on WiFi extenders or repeaters. These are plugged into a wall socket, connect to the WiFi beamed out by your routers and extend it.
They can get rid of your home’s WiFi dead zones, although the signals coming from your extender or router aren’t as strong as ones that originate straight from your router, so it is important to position them properly.
Turn off unused equipment
If you have other wireless equipment that uses WiFi or Bluetooth connections including headphones and TV, turn them off when not in use. If they are tapping on the WiFi signal at the same time, this can create interference with its performance. Use Ethernet cables when you can, and only keep important devices on if they really need the internet to work.
