Warisan Veep Denies Breaking Quarantine Lying To Court
Warisan vice president Peter Anthony has refuted allegations that he violated a Covid-19 home quarantine order to attend a party function yesterday.
On his Facebook page this afternoon, he said he did not break any laws as he had already been released from quarantine before the event.
To prove his point, he shared an image of an April 20 letter issued to him by a medical officer from the Keningau quarantine centre in Sabah.
He said he was released after testing negative for Covid-19 twice.
Peter’s lawyer D Senthinathan previously told the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court that his client needed to undergo a 10-day home quarantine - from April 16 to 26 - after he was identified as a close contact of a Covid-19 case.
The lawyer had thus applied for Peter’s ongoing forged documents trial to be postponed. This was granted and the trial was scheduled to resume on May 3.
Yesterday (April 23), Peter attended a Warisan event in Limbahau, Papar in person where he was recorded giving a speech.
In today’s statement, the Melalap assemblyperson also refuted accusations that Senthinathan had lied about his quarantine order.
“I strongly deny allegations from irresponsible parties who spread false information and accusations that the quarantine order stated by my lawyer to the court was false [...]
“This is proof that the spread of false information on social media is malicious and aimed at tarnishing my reputation,” he said.
Prior to the collapse of the Warisan state government, Peter was Sabah infrastructure development minister.
In July 2020, he was charged in his capacity as managing director of Asli Jati Sdn Bhd for allegedly falsifying a letter back in 2014 with the intention of deceiving the principal private secretary of then prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
The letter in question was allegedly falsely attributed to the Universiti Malaysia Sabah vice-chancellor’s office and dated June 9, 2014.
He was charged under Section 468 of the Penal Code (forgery for the purpose of cheating) which carries a maximum of a seven years jail term and a fine.
He was also charged under Section 471 (using as genuine a forged document) which carries a maximum two-year jail term or a fine or both.
Separately, Peter faces several money laundering charges and one abetting a criminal breach of trust charge. - Mkini
