Wanita Umno No Apologies For Pas Cooperation Muslim Unity The Priority
There is no need for Umno and PAS to apologise to one another, as the political cooperation between the two parties is to forge Muslim unity, says Wanita Umno chief Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad.
Noraini, the Parit Sulong MP, said she had contested against PAS for three terms but never held grudges against her political opponent.
She said that the main reason of the political cooperation was to “treat the wound” of the Muslim community, who she claimed had been hurt by the Pakatan Harapan government’s many political U-turns.
“All this while we knew each other, but we stood on the opposing political side.
“In the end, Umno and PAS have the same principle, which is to fight for the race, religion, and the country,” she said at the Himpunan Wanita Penyatuan Ummah at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) on Friday (Sept 13).
The event saw PAS muslimat chief Nuridah Mohd Salleh sharing the stage with Noraini. Other top Wanita Umno and PAS muslimat wing leaders also attended the event.
She said that the political cooperation could also help ensure that Pakatan fulfilled its promises.
“Recently, there were talks about scrapping the pension scheme for government servants.
“When we raise our concern, they made a U-turn. This is as if to challenge all of the Muslim community.
“They keep pushing us towards a corner, and when we are angry, they will do a U-turn,”she said.
On Thursday (Sept 5), Public Service director-general Datuk Seri Borhan Dolah said new appointments in the public service next year might no longer be made under the permanent pension schemes, but would be replaced by a contractual scheme.
In response, the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services Malaysia (Cuepacs) said the removal of permanent posts and pension schemes could deter the young from joining the civil service.
