Wan Fayhsal Questions Timing Of Us Ambassador S Replacement
Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has urged the government to formally reject the nomination of far-right commentator Nick Adams as the next United States ambassador to Malaysia.
In a statement today, the Bersatu lawmaker described the nomination, announced on July 10 by US president Donald Trump, as “deeply troubling and unacceptable”, citing Adams’ (above, left) controversial track record and lack of diplomatic experience.
“This nomination must be viewed in light of the Trump administration’s recent decision to raise tariffs specifically on Malaysian exports, making Malaysia the only Asean country singled out for such treatment.
“The timing and nature of both decisions suggest a deliberate slight against the Malaysian government and a signal of disrespect toward Malaysia’s sovereignty and diplomatic dignity,” he claimed.
ADSWan Fayhsal, who heads Bersatu’s foreign affairs portfolio, called for immediate action from Wisma Putra.

Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal“We urge the Foreign Ministry to issue a diplomatic note of protest to the US government, clearly articulating Malaysia’s objection to this nomination.
“Failure to act decisively will reflect poorly on the Madani administration’s commitment to safeguarding Malaysia’s honour and foreign policy independence,” he said.
He added that under Article 4 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961, Malaysia has the sovereign right to withhold agrément, or consent, for any ambassadorial appointment deemed unsuitable.
“Malaysia must not remain silent in the face of such disrespect. The dignity of our nation must be upheld,” Wan Fayhsal stressed.
Controversial Adams
Yesterday, former minister Khairy Jamaluddin also joined calls for Putrajaya to reject Adams by invoking the Vienna Convention.
Adams, an Australian-born conservative author and political commentator, was named among several ambassadorial nominees – including those proposed for Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Kazakhstan – pending confirmation by the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
The 40-year-old would be replacing Edgard Kagan, a career diplomat who was nominated by former president Joe Biden in May 2023.
Online, Adams is known for his posts promoting a personal image based on “stereotypical symbols of masculinity” like eating steak and frequenting Hooters - the chain restaurant famous for its scantily dressed waitresses. - Mkini
