Many people do not know that the Russians are still keeping to the earlier "temporary ceasefire" plan (since March 25) where they will not attack energy infrastructure inside Ukraine. The Russians have stopped attacking Ukraine's energy ceasefire. 
Ukraine rejected the temporary ceasefire and has been attacking Russian energy infrastructure.
The latest was a complete unilateral ceasefire declared by the Russians over the Easter weekend (it lasted 30 hours). The 30 hour ceasefire ended yesterday Sunday.
Donald Trump has now said that if they cannot agree to a ceasefire then the United States may just walk away from the negotiations. 
According to Andrei Martyanov (and Colonel MacGregor) the day to day running of the war on the Ukrainian side has almost completely been shifted to London. The Brits are planning and executing orders  directly from London. The Brits are going to see the last Ukrainian getting killed in this war.
The big question mark is when is Donald Trump going to tell the Brits to back off? For without a doubt the Brits are the single largest obstacle to putting an end to this war. And the Americans know it. The head of the snake is in London. This is the Great British War against Germany and Russia.
If the US gets tired and walks away the Russians will steam roll their Army over Ukraine. NATO and the European Union are divided over what to do. 24 out of 30 (?) European nations (and hence also NATO) have already rejected any plans to send their own troops into Ukraine.  Only the British, France, Poland and some "Baltic" states are playing with this suicidal idea. The war has already been lost. With or without Trump, the Russians can conclude the war on the field.
The French have lost so many wars. Going back in history they lost Algeria, Vietnam (Dien Bien Phu), Paris, Waterloo, Moscow, Trafalgar.  Now they have been kicked out of West Africa as well. 
The Brits are great at hit and run. The Belgrano, Moskva, the Crimea Bridge. But when the Ayatollahs shot down that British drone the Brits packed up and left. Before that the Taliban killed a number of British soldiers in Kandahar. They packed up and left. 
Do they seriously think they can take on the Russians? There are other calculations going on in Ukraine. Its plain money. There are no principles or pholosophies involved here.
May 9th is the anniversary of the Great War. What if the Russians turn up in Kiev or somewhere.
