Video Captures Fiery Accident Involving Lorry And Three Other Vehicles On The Elite
ACCIDENTS involving vehicles on the highway shouldn’t resemble any scene from a Need For Speed movie but that is exactly what happened at the Lebuhraya ELITE recently.
A video posted by netizen MYNEWSHUB showed a lorry covered in flames crashing through the opposing side of the highway before coming to a stop at the barrier.
Another video in the same post showed the lorry driver largely unhurt besides having his left leg being lightly maimed. Not much else can be derived from the videos.
MYNEWSHUB claimed that the incident happened at the ELITE highway, km 44.5 heading to the south from Bandar Sernia to Nilai about 12 in the afternoon.
In the comment section, netizen Edvwgti said it was time for heavy vehicles to have their speed reduced to not more than 80km per hour.
Another netizen chipped in, saying this once happened to her friend. Apparently a lorry from the opposing lane entered his lane and rammed into his car.
Until now, his wife bears the mark of the incident on her hip bone. The netizen added that it also happened on the ELITE highway on Oct 13, 2012.
According to Harian Metro, preliminary investigation revealed that the accident was caused by the tanker, which was on its way from Jasin, Melaka to Klang, Selangor.
Nilai District Police Chief Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim said the heavy vehicle, driven by a 53-year-old man, lost control and collided with a Proton Saga that was being driven in the right lane, causing the car to spin and come to a halt across the motorway.
“After that, the tanker struck the crash barrier on the right side (in the middle of the motorway) and veered into the opposing lane, coming to rest in the emergency lane while ablaze,” he said in a statement.
The accident resulted in debris being scattered across the motorway, leading to two other cars—a Perodua Bezza and a Mazda CX3—coming into contact with the debris as they approached from the opposite direction.
The driver of the Proton Saga, a 21-year-old woman, survived with only minor injuries and was taken to Tuanku Jaafar Hospital in Seremban for treatment.
Meanwhile, the other victims involved in the accident, including the lorry driver, did not sustain any injuries. – Focus Malaysia
