Vaccine Safety
PFIZER-BioNTech.
Safety.
In clinical trials, the side effects that happen within 7 days of getting vaccinated were common but were mostly mild. Some people had side effects that affected their ability to do daily activities in first few days.
Side effects (such as fever, chills, tiredness, and headache) throughout the body were more common after the second dose of the vaccine.
There have been reports of myocarditis and pericarditis in adolescents and young adults after the Covid-19 vaccination. Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle, and pericarditis is inflammation of the outer lining of the heart. In both cases, the body’s immune system causes inflammation in response to an infection or some other trigger. The known and potential benefits of Covid-19 vaccination outweigh the known and potential risks, including the possible risk of myocarditis or pericarditis. These symptoms typically occur within several days of the vaccination and they are both treatable.
Side Effects.
In the arm where you got the shot:
Pain
Redness
Swelling
Throughout the rest of your body:
Tiredness
Headache
Muscle pain
Chills
Fever
Nausea
These side effects happen within a day or two of getting the vaccine. They are normal signs that your body is building protection and should go away within a few days.
ASTRAZENECA.
Safety.
There is a very slight chance that the AstraZeneca vaccine is associated with the risk of a rare condition that is characterized by blood clotting coupled with a fall in platelet counts. These divergent symptoms are what makes this a serious and difficult-to-treat reaction. Such reported number of cases in the European Union represents around 1 per every 100,000 vaccinations.
Overall, the AstraZeneca vaccine has been clinically proven to be safe and the benefits of the vaccine still outweigh the risks.
Side Effects.
The most common side effects are discomfort at the injection site, or feeling generally unwell, tired, or feverish, or a headache, feeling sick or having joint or muscle pain. You can take paracetamol to treat any of these side effects.
Often, the side effects are a sign that the vaccine is doing its job: it can happen with many vaccines that some people might feel slightly unwell because their immune system is responding to the protein, but this is not a Covid-19 illness and the vaccine cannot give you coronavirus infection.
These are the side effects that have been reported so far:-
Very Common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people).
tenderness, pain, warmth, itching or bruising where the injection is given.
generally feeling unwell.
feeling tired (fatigue).
chills or feeling feverish.
headache.
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people).
feeling sick (nausea).
joint pain or muscle ache.
swelling, redness or a lump at the injection site.
fever.
feeling or being sick (vomiting) or diarrhea.
flu-like symptoms, such as high temperature, chills, muscle aches, sore throat, runny nose, cough.
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people).
feeling dizzy.
lower appetite.
abdominal pain.
enlarged lymph nodes.
excessive sweating, itchy skin or rash.
Extremely rare.
severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).
events associated with inflammation of the nervous system, which may cause numbness, pins and needles, and/or loss of feeling. It has not been confirmed whether these events were due to the vaccine.
blood clots occurring with low levels of platelets.
SINOVAC.
Safety.
Sinovac is an inactivated vaccine and therefore, is very safe. It uses a dead version of the Covid-19 virus so that it cannot replicate, but it keeps the surface spike protein intact to trigger the body’s immune system to create antibodies for protection against the live virus, if the coronavirus were to invade.
Side Effects.
The most common side effect reported was injection site pain.
Other side effects include fatigue, diarrhea and muscle pain. Most of these side effects are mild and last only for 2 days.
