Unable To Get A Vote Opposition To Flood Parliament With No Confidence Motions
The opposition appeared set to flood the Dewan Rakyat with no-confidence motions after an earlier one filed by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was not debated in previous sittings.
Parti Pejuang Tanah Air got the ball rolling yesterday after all five of its MPs, including Mahathir, filed fresh no-confidence motions against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Now, Amanah has also called on its MPs to do the same.
Amanah vice-president Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus said the party was encouraging all its 11 MPs to file no-confidence motions before the deadline today.
"We are preparing the documents," Hasanuddin told Malaysiakini.
"It's not compulsory but we're encouraging all 11 MPs to send the letters by today," the Hulu Langat MP added.
The move came amid Muhiyddin's shaky majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
Muhyiddin currently has the support of 113 MPs in the 222-member Dewan Rakyat. The defection of three MPs is enough to bring down his government.

Furthermore, Umno, which has 39 MPs, is considering quitting the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government complaining that Muhyiddin had sidelined them.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi claimed many of his MPs were prepared to back PKR president Anwar Ibrahim in his bid to form a new government which the latter claimed would have a more formidable majority.
The upcoming Dewan Rakyat sitting will convene on Nov 2.
Hasanuddin, meanwhile, said there needed to be a more stable government.
"When the PN allies are attacking each other in public, then it is no longer stable. We need to change the prime minister and government," he added.
Another Amanah vice-president, Mahfuz Omar, confirmed that he would be submitting a motion of no confidence against Muhyiddin by today.
Previously, Mahathir's no-confidence motion against Muhyiddin was not debated in the Dewan Rakyat as government bills and motions took precedence over those from the opposition.
The volume of the latest round of no-confidence motions, however, is unlikely to change the technical aspect of the Parliament Order Paper but is likely to put more pressure on Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun. - Mkini
