Umno President Will Decide Says Ex Top Cop On Possible Candidacy

CAMERON POLLS | Former top police officer Ramli Mohd Noor is tightlipped about the speculation that he might be fielded as the BN candidate for the Cameron Highlands by-election on Jan 26
He also said it is the prerogative of acting Umno president Mohamad Hasan to decide who would contest the parliament seat in Pahang
BN is scheduled to announce its candidate at the Hotel Seri Pacific in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow morning
“Wait for tomorrow, Insya-Allah (God willing). It is the right of Umno's acting president to make a media statement on who is the candidate,” Ramli told Malaysiakini
“I have no right to comment on this issue for now. The decision is the prerogative of the president. I will comment if I am named as the candidate,” he added
The 61-year-old former assistant commissioner was the highest ranking Orang Asli police officer in the nation's history
Ramli, who holds a Master's in public administration from the University of East London, retired in October last year
His last position was federal commercial crimes department deputy director in Bukit Aman
Ramli is also a native of Cameron Highlands and is of the Semai tribe, which forms the bulk of the 22 percent of Orang Asli voters in the seat
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that MIC has decided to pull out from contesting in its traditional seat and allow the BN leadership to decide on the candidate
In the last general election, MIC vice-president C Sivarraajh won the Cameron Highlands seat in a five-way tussle, edging DAP's M Manogaran with a margin of about 600 votes
Last November, the Election Court nullified the results due to the commission of corrupt practices and ruled that a by-election be held
Harapan has named Manogaran as its candidate
