In a statement, National PPP Youth chief Sathiah Sudakaran said the UEC should not be viewed as a threat to national unity, identity or the education system.
Instead, he said, it presents an opportunity to enhance understanding and respect within Malaysia's multicultural learning environment.
"For decades, UEC graduates have served the nation as professionals, entrepreneurs, academics and community leaders.
"Their contributions clearly demonstrate how diversity strengthens Malaysia," he said in a statement.
He noted that Malaysia already accepts foreign-based qualifications such as the O-Level, A-Level and Cambridge examinations.
"There is no reasonable basis to reject the UEC, which Malaysian students in Malaysian institutions pursue. UEC recognition is not about favouring any group, but about applying consistent, fair and rational standards in our education policies," he said.
Sathiah added that Sabah and Sarawak have recognised the UEC for years without any negative impact on unity, governance or educational quality — a model he said the federal hovernment should take into account.
He also highlighted that the UEC is accepted by reputable universities worldwide, warning that continued delays in recognition could place Malaysia at a disadvantage in the global education landscape.
"If necessary, the UEC can be aligned with key requirements of the national education
policy through a balanced and sensible approach," he said.
Calling for all parties to avoid politicising the issue, Sathiah said the focus should remain on long-term national interests.
"Recognising the UEC will not undermine Malaysia's identity. Instead, it will showcase our openness, fairness and readiness to embrace world-class standards in education," he said.
"In the spirit of Malaysia Madani, PPP Youth calls on the government to take bold and progressive steps towards UEC recognition to strengthen unity, uphold fairness and promote educational excellence for all Malaysian children. - NST
