Group spokesperson, Marwan Masran said they sought the intervention of the Chief Minister and the director to take action to remove the top management officers for failing to administer and manage the university.
"We urged the removal of vice-chancellor Dr Mohamed Haleem Mohamed Razi, board chairman Datuk KY Mustafa and acting vice chancellor Dr. Alan Lim Tze, or they should step down honourably," said Marwan during a press conference at the university premises today.
He said there were about 140 employees working in the university, which had been suffering a 50 per cent pay cut since October last year until March this year.
Marwan, who is a lecturer at the Faculty of Art and Creative Media, said they were disappointed at how the top management handled the whole situation especially when they have money to hire a lawyer, but failed to pay their claims despite winning the case in the Labour Court on July 22, this year.
"Thirty-seven staff brought the matter to court which ruled in our favour. The court ordered the university to settle the staff's backdated salaries amounting to RM94,709.35," he said.
Instead of paying, the management challenged the decision and now the case has been brought to the High Court, he said.
"We were also not given any medical benefits since 2018," he said, adding that the management had halved their salaries including those earning a minimum of RM1,200.
Among others, the petition also demanded the management to pay the staff salary increment dated back since 2017. - NST
