Trump Well On His Way Making America Hated Again
In the wake of Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again (Maga) campaign, one spinoff is Make America Hate Again, the reference to the campaign of hate against other people that the Trump administration has launched, targeting people such as migrants and liberals.
Those old enough to recall the hate for the US in many developing countries due its imperialism, its support of dictatorial and oppressive regimes across the world, its liberal use of the CIA to foment coups to instal friendly governments, and even blatant attacks on democratically elected governments may now identify with this returning hatred for the US.
The new offshoot of Trump’s Maga involves just the addition of the letter “d” to the word “hate” - Trump is well on the way to “Make America Hated Again” or Maha. It’s happening not just at its doorstep in Canada, Mexico, and Panama, but throughout the world.
When Trump first said Canada would be the 51st state, the general impression was that it was a joke. But some began to believe it to be true, especially when he threatened its closest ally with tariffs and other measures to show his strength.
ADSWhat happened instead was that he united Canada like it had never been before, a country larger than the US in terms of size but a population much smaller, which pushed back hard and made it clear it never wanted to be part of the US. The two still boast the longest undefended border between nations.
Despite the ridiculousness of it all, he still went ahead and tried to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
Blatant threats
Trump also threatened Panama by saying it wanted the Panama Canal back. The canal is entirely within Panama, and the US legally returned it to Panama. Recently, a US fund bought the canal from its Hong Kong owner.
Trump has blithely repeated many times that he wants to have Greenland simply because it is necessary for the security of the US - that’s it - a blatant disregard of all international law.
When Trump’s vice-president, JD Vance, with his wife Usha, wanted to visit Greenland, a protectorate of Denmark, the reception was rather frosty. No one wanted them.

US Vice-President JD VanceCurrently, Ukraine is fighting a minerals treaty that Trump wants the embattled country to sign, which will give the US the rights to its minerals for many years to come in return for supporting the war against Russia. Ukraine’s president has refused to sign anything which will impoverish its people.
In the Middle East, Trump has given carte blanche to Israel to continue its genocide against the Palestinians unchecked and incredibly suggested that Egypt and the Arab states take in the Palestinians in Gaza, which will become a riviera to be developed by US interests!
In Europe, Vance chastised EU members for curtailing the freedom of right-wing extremists, meeting representatives from such a party in Germany ahead of its elections, a direct, blatant interference in the affairs of another country.
Germany is now reducing its dependence on defence and other matters on the US via a trillion-euro plan.
Poor historical record
The US is not historically known for its benign treatment of democracy everywhere - it depends pretty much on whether the government is friendly to the US or not, and adopts similar ideologies.
ADSInfamously, the US tried to bribe Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew in 1960.
President Kennedy almost sparked off World War III by insisting in the sixties that the then USSR withdraw its nuclear missiles from Cuba, when it had similar missiles at the USSR’s doorstep in Turkey. One rule for the US and one for the others.
In 1973, democratically elected president Salvador Allende of Chile was overthrown by a military coup led by General Augusto Pinochet, with US support. He proved to be a cruel despot responsible for the deaths and disappearance of thousands. Allende committed suicide.

In 1975, the US was finally driven out of Vietnam after a long conflict arising out of the Domino Theory that held that communist expansion, if not checked, would result in Southeast Asia falling like domino pieces to the threat. They did not.
These resulted in many developing countries forming rather adverse opinions about the US. However, more enlightened countries recognised the good in the US and tried to balance these against the ills of superpowers in general. Trump is rapidly undoing that.
It’s a changed world now - neither Russia needs to have missiles in Cuba to strike the US, nor does China and possibly even North Korea - underlying in heavy black that nuclear war is no longer an option and that the US threat over the rest of the world is no longer that great.
A school yard bully
Trump may well behave like a schoolyard bully over his mates, but he does not have the exclusive firepower necessary to maintain US dominance in the world anymore.
He won’t get Canada, he won’t get Greenland, and he will see the rapid rise of European power to counter America’s. What he will get is increasing hatred and animosity against America.
His game plan is populist - appealing to conservative, right-wing, redneck, hardline Americans who hold the badly mistaken belief that immigrants, non-whites, foreigners, and other countries are the source of all of the US’ problems and that blatant exhibition of naked power and aggression will solve everything.

And that America, given its might, had automatic rights to demand what other countries own legitimately and according to international law, because America comes first, and what it wants it gets because it has a divine prerogative to it.
They will find out soon enough that the world does not work that way. All it will gain Trump is hate for him and for America. He is well on the way to Make America Hated Again, and while that’s happening, he will be in the wilderness when it comes to Making America Great Again.
What will stop Trump?
It is a rather strange quirk of fate that the US is being run by a convicted criminal, whose victory at the polls saved him from a prison term and numerous other charges being levied against him because of presidential immunity. Ironically, very Third World-like.
Which is why he will cling to the presidency at all costs and put appropriate successors in place who will pardon all his trespasses, past, present and future. Trump has the potential not only to ruin a large part of the world but also to run the US into the ground.
What will stop his misadventures? The courts, perhaps, or the Republicans, when they get too tired of him and realise what he is doing to the US. If all else fails, there is the thing called time, which gets rid of all despots, even if Trump is trying to change that too through an extension of his term. - Mkini
P GUNASEGARAM is astonished that a person like Trump can go this far. What has the US and the world come to?
