Treason Claims Based On Wrong Info Says Umno S Annuar
Annuar Musa said Takiyuddin Hassan had merely informed the Dewan Rakyat of the Cabinet’s decision.KOTA BHARU: Allegations that the government had committed treason against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong arose because inaccurate information had been disseminated that had also been politicised, Federal Territories minister Annuar Musa said today.
Annuar said that when many inaccurate reports were made about an issue, there would surely be parties who would try to exploit the situation.
“And when there are those who are fed with wrong explanations, there will be all sorts of perceptions about the matter. Actually, many do not know that the process of revoking the Emergency Ordinances was done according to the proper rules. There is no question of treason and so on; it is just being politicised,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after a community vaccination event here today. Annuar, a former Umno secretary-general, is MP for Ketereh.
On July 26, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan told the Dewan Rakyat that the government decided not to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to extend the emergency that comes to an end today (Aug 1).
Annuar said de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan had merely informed the Dewan Rakyat on July 26 about the Cabinet’s decision to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong not to extend the state of emergency when it expired on Aug 1. He said the usual process would be applied until consent is obtained from the King.
“Parliament began sitting on July 26 and it is then that the law minister was pushed by the opposition to reveal the government’s stand, which the law minister did by announcing the latest development (about the Emergency Ordinances),” he said.
He said when the issue heated up, the Prime Minister along with the Attorney-General, without hesitation, sought an audience with the king on July 27 to clarify and explain the situation.
On July 29, Istana Negara issued a statement in which the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, expressed utmost disappointment with the statement made in Parliament that the government had revoked all Emergency Ordinances under the ongoing emergency.
The statement said Sultan Abdullah was very disappointed that his command, that the proposed revocation of all the ordinances be tabled and debated in Parliament, had not been carried out. - FMT
