Tljcf Receives Laptops From Jcorp To Aid Young Cancer Patients In Johor

Present were Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim, (left) and Colonel Datuk Mohamed Perang Musa, (right). - NSTP/VINCENT D’SILVAJOHOR BARU: Johor Corporation (JCorp) in tandem with Yayasan Johor Corporation today contributed 50 laptops to young cancer patients in the state so that they can stay connected while undergoing treatment.
The distribution of the laptops will be done under the auspices of the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation (TLJCF), an initiative whose inspiration was the late Tunku Laksamana Tunku Abdul Jalil, who died of liver cancer at the age of 25 in December 2015.
It was Tunku Abdul Jalil, while himself beset with the illness, who had suggested to his father, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, that a foundation for cancer patients be set up in the state to ease the financial troubles and pain of cancer patients.
While in hospital, the prince listened to the patients sharing stories, experiences and daily struggles living with cancer, and it was his desire to help provide comfort, strength and relief for other patients that inspired the formation of TLJCF.
The laptops were presented to Permaisuri of Johor Raja Zarith Sofia by Rozaini Mohd Sani, chairman of Yayasan JCorp. Also present were Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim, president and chief executive officer of JCorp, and Colonel Datuk Mohamed Perang Musa, executive director of TLJCF.
"In conjunction with His Majesty Sultan of Johor's 63rd birthday this year, we were delighted to continue with His Majesty's efforts to ensure that young cancer patients are equipped with necessary tools to continue with their education.
"We hope these young cancer patients undergoing treatment are now able to stay connected, whether for education or personal needs.
"This gesture will help promote the idea that a classroom can be held everywhere," said Syed Mohamed.
The "Everywhere Classroom Initiative" is a project by JCorp in conjunction with its corporate allies.
"The laptops are equipped with age-appropriate software to support the individual needs of the recipients," explained Syed Mohamad.
"Due to the pandemic, the past year has changed the landscape of how classes are conducted. Now more than ever, we do hope that these laptops help to lift the spirit of the respective recipients as they go through this challenging period."
Since 2016, JCorp and its group of companies have supported TLJCF via various initiatives, with contributions in excess of RM1.3 million.
These initiatives include the Laksamana Charity Run, Laksamana Trophy Charity Golf Tournament, World Cancer Day celebration, Buka Puasa charity event, and The Caring Home by Pizza Hut at the Haematology Ward in Hospital Sultanah Aminah in the city.
In addition to this, JCorp through the JCorp Prihatin fund has contributed close to RM32 million towards the Covid-19 pandemic since March 2020.
The contributions include the supply of 20 Respiratory Ventilator Machines (RVM) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to Hospital Sultanah Aminah.
Also included were the supply of thermometers to various enforcement agencies and the provision of cash aid for those affected by the Cobid-19 pandemic. - NST
