Tg Piai Spells Disaster For Ph
BN's unexpected massive victory for Tg Piai Parliamentary seat in yesterday's by-election points to one sure scenario - that Pakatan Harapan government is in a very fragile situation only after 18 months capturing Putrajaya.
It also sent the ruling party reeling after the constituents saw a parade of ministers, deputy ministers and other VVIPs weeks before the November 2 nomination. Most embarrassing is to notice how their promises for projects and goodies give-out were accepted by voters only to end up in dumping them mercilessly.
Call it the people's power, but even Dr Mahathir, Lim Guan Eng and Muhyiddin failed to impress despite a crowd of 10,000 who attended their ceramah on Wednesday. Everything went on smoothly for PH and confidence was high for the coalition to retain the seat.
The 25,466 votes garnered by BN's candidate Wee Jeck Seng said it all. PH candidate Karmaine Sardini who registered 10,380 votes have to tell his supporters to leave Dewan Jubli Intan in Pontian earlier. The other 4 candidates name from Gerakan, Berjasa and two independents are only satisfied to see their deposits went up in ashes.
I didn't expect the majority votes to be at 15,086. Even some political analysts have made prophecies of between 2,000 and 3,000. Neither that I expected PH to get such a bashing in Tanjung Piai after some projects and the reopening of Kukup jetty were pledged to the people.
Some have also gave a worrying indication that BN might lose since it could not afford to offer anything as the Opposition. However, the Penyatuan Ummah on Thursday night which was attended by a strong 8,000 people has turned out as a jinx for PH.
Muafakat Nasional led by Umno president and BN chairman Zahid Hamidi really works. The strong collaboration between BN and PAS is becoming a nightmare for Pakatan since the Cameron Highlands by-election.
Its a morale booster for BN and PAS. Umno, on the other hand, had made the right decision by allowing MCA to contest, and the result was very devastating to Pakatan. Added by some silly mistakes by a few speakers, PH suddenly has made itself a 'credible loser'.
Umno, PAS, MCA, MIC and its friendly organisations were formidable in its campaign. PH was a bit complacent for the fact that it is the ruling party.
But where was DAP? Did they help PH out?
Some say DAP was sabotaging the Bersatu candidate when Lim Guan Eng hiked up the price of RON97 by 13 sen. Anything below 4 sen will be acceptable by the people. Although not many people choose RON97, notably in Tanjung Piai, is was perceived as a punishment for them.
The people are also sicked and tired of the blaming game by Dr M, LGE, Kit Siang, Syed Saddiq and others. They haven't stop blaming the previous regime for the ballooning debts, spiraling cost of living and many other wrongdoings of the current government.
After Camerons, Semenyih and Rantau, this is the fourth consecutive victory for BN. I could smell a few more by-elections and are looking forward for it. Where and when, only God knows!
