Temple Wedding Police To Take Action Against Organiser Attendees Minister

CORONAVIRUS | Police will be taking action against the organiser and attendees of a wedding ceremony believed to have taken place within a Hindu temple in Seri Kembangan, Selangor yesterday
This followed a turnaround when police, which had initially stated the wedding depicted in a viral video did not take place, later stated the temple management admitted to it. Speaking to the press, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob (above) said the wedding violated the standard operating procedure set by the government concerning the operations of non-Muslim places of worship
“I understand police is taking action against the organisers and even those who attended the wedding,” he said
In recently released guidelines, non-Muslim places of worship are only allowed to open for prayer services from June 10, and under strict conditions. “The standard operating procedure (SOP) for non-Muslim places of worship has been issued and informed to all organisations and leaders of all faiths in the country. “What we permit is only religious activities on important days (according to each religion). We only allow worship but we have yet to allow, even from June 10, other activities such as weddings and funerals to be held at places of worship
“This (wedding) has violated the decision made by the special ministers meeting, agreed to by the Unity Ministry and religious leaders,” the senior minister said during his daily briefing in Putrajaya today
The one-minute video clip showing individuals attended a wedding function at a temple went had gone viral on social media
This resulted in a 41-year-old man who recorded and uploaded the video lodging a police report after his own picture circulated in WhatsApp groups, according to Serdang district police chief Ismadi Borhan
The man said he took the video clips when he was on his way to work, he said
"He was informed that his personal pictures had gone viral in several WhatsApp groups. He was worried about his safety and urged police to probe the matter," said Ismadi in a statement today
Ismadi said the police later went to the temple at Taman Serdang Raya in Selangor to probe the case
According to him, the temple management originally tried to deny the wedding took place but later admitted it indeed did take place yesterday morning and the ceremony was attended by 20 to 30 people
"The investigation will be conducted under Section 7(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020," he said
Police will track down all the suspects, he said
He urged all parties to remain calm and refrain from making any comment that could threaten the peace.  - Mkini
