Tan Kok Wai Plays Up Dangers Of Umno Pas Alliance In Cameron
CAMERON POLLS | DAP chairperson Tan Kok Wai today warned voters that the possibility of a PAS-Umno alliance would increase should the BN coalition come out tops in the Jan 26 Cameron Highlands by-election. Speaking to voters this morning, Tan claimed BN was "incurable" and had been playing up the racial card during campaigning in the highlands
As such, voting for the opposition coalition would be tantamount to helping tyrants do evil, he said using a Chinese saying
“Although they (PAS and Umno) have been courting all the time, they have yet to become an official alliance
“If BN can achieve their objectives (of winning the by-election) by the using of racial politics in this by-election, we can foresee this will bring tremendous damage to Malaysia," he said during a talk by Pakatan Harapan at a kopitiam in Ringlet this morning
"Jan 26 is an important date, everyone please vote for Harapan. This by-election is to let everyone realise that BN is incurable, especially Umno
“If BN wins, this will increase cooperation between PAS and Umno [...] That’s why we cannot let the risk become a reality,” he added
The Cheras MP's warning came following remarks made by speakers of a joint PAS-Umno ceramah in which DAP was labelled "anti-Malay" and "anti-Islam"
Closer tiesFollowing Harapan's win at the 14th general election in May, former political rivals PAS and Umno have fostered closer ties, even helping each other in several subsequent by-elections including in Sungai Kandis and Seri Setia. It was also recently reported that the two parties will set up a joint committee to plan the Semenyih by-election campaign. PAS will not be contesting the March 2 Semenyih polls, which came about following the death of incumbent Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, 57, on Jan 11, from a heart attack
Meanwhile, Tanah Rata assemblyperson Chiong Yoke Kong dismissed Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail's remark saying Chinese voters and BN could "help each other”
Chiong said the MB's remark was similar to the usual tactics employed by BN to garner Chinese and Indian votes
“They (BN) don’t have self-realisation... using the same tricks over and over again
“People here depend on land and farming for a living, but the Pahang government never thinks of upgrading and improving its land policies,” he claimed. - Mkini
