Takiyuddin Private Motion May Be Allowed After Gov T Affairs Settled In Parliament
The motions of confidence against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin brought by Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the opposition MPs may see the light of day in current Dewan Rakyat session after the august House deals with all the government affairs.
This is according to de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan who said any private motion brought by an MP would only be allowed to be debated in the House after all government affairs are settled.
"In line with Clause 15(1) of the Dewan Rakyat Standing Orders, government business must be prioritised over other affairs on each day of the sitting.
"As such, other matters, including a private motion, will only be debated after all government business is settled," said Takiyuddin in a parliamentary reply today.
He was responding to Lim Kit Siang (Pakatan Harapan-Iskandar Puteri) who questioned why the motions of no-confidence against the premier from MPs were not given priority as they were closely related to the legitimacy of the government.
The ongoing Dewan Rakyat session is seen as a litmus test for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's leadership and he has just crossed the first hurdle with the Dewan Rakyat approving the Budget 2021 at the policy stage or second reading today.
More challenges await the ruling Perikatan Nasional coalition ahead of the current sitting which will end on Dec 17.
The House has received a total 25 motions of confidence for Muhyiddin and two motions of no-confidence against Muhyiddin.
The House will continue with the debate on Budget 2021 at the committee stage over the next three weeks. After the budget is passed, the House will debate on various bills during the last two days of its sitting.
The motions of no-confidence were filed by Mahathir and three lawmakers aligned to him, seven MPs from Warisan, eleven from Amanah and one each from PKR and DAP.
Amanah's Khalid Samad (Shah Alam) and Hanipa Maidin (Sepang) each had two motions of no-confidence to their name in the draft. - Mkini
