Takiyuddin Pas Reps No Show At Palace To Avoid Making Error
PAS has explained that its Perak lawmakers' no-show at Istana Kinta in Ipoh yesterday was because it did not want to commit an error in deciding the appointment of a new menteri besar.
Its secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan made the clarification after Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah had summoned Bersatu and PAS lawmakers for an audience yesterday, but PAS assemblypersons did not appear at the palace.
"In regard to the (lack of) attendance at the Perak palace, this was because PAS did not want to make an error in making a decision especially when it concerns a decree by the Sultan, so PAS has ordered all its assemblypersons to go to the palace when the Sultan summons them next," Takiyuddin said in a statement today.
Yesterday, Perak PAS chief Razman Zakaria told the media that they were undecided on what to tell the state ruler and hence sought a postponement.
"We don't want to look like we are playing around," Razman said.
So far, only Umno and Pakatan Harapan leaders have had an audience with the Sultan.
Perak Bersatu chief Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who was ousted from the state top post via a confidence vote last Friday, had stressed that Bersatu has yet to receive an official decree from the palace for an audience.
Meanwhile, Takiyuddin was adamant that PAS respects the royal institution and ensures that it would discuss any matter linked to the institution thoroughly and with respect.
He added that the party is working hard with its members in Perikatan Nasional to untangle the Perak crisis.
Perak Umno chief Saarani Mohamad is said to be the top choice as Faizal's successor.
So far, it is uncertain if Umno will join forces with Bersatu and PAS or Harapan whose leaders are ready to forge an alliance for a new state government.
Razman's political secretary Fairuz Hafiizh Othman yesterday said that PAS was exploited by Umno when the latter called for a confidence vote on Faizal's leadership.
"The motion initiated by Umno was supported by PAS... But unfortunately, Umno was the one that did not support it. Poor PAS, we got played by Umno.
"In the end, when things turned for the worse, PAS was blamed when it tried to be a peacemaker," he said on Facebook. - Mkini
