Tajuddin Tipped For Indonesian Ambassador Job
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has named Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman as the new ambassador-designate to Indonesia, according to government sources.
Indonesian news agency Antara reported Tajuddin's rumoured appointment last month and the former Prasarana chief was also spotted today among Ismail Sabri's entourage during the prime minister's first official visit to Jakarta.
"Basically the prime minister has put forward Tajuddin's name, and it's pretty much confirmed unless the Yang di-Pertuan Agong or (Indonesian president) Jokowi rejects him.
"The announcement should be in a couple of weeks from now," a source told Malaysiakini.
Aside from Tajuddin (above), the source also hinted at a future appointment of Padang Rengas MP Nazri Aziz.
"Not sure where Nazri is going, but he'll also be made an ambassador," said the source.
When contacted, Nazri claimed to be unaware of the matter.
"I don't know. I am Padang Rengas MP. If I hear anything I will let you know," he told Malaysiakini.
Meanwhile, another source close to Tajuddin indicated that the Umno leader will assume his new post next year.
"Just wait for the official announcement from Prime Minister’s Office," said the source.
The appointment of an ambassador will only be made official in a ceremony for the Agong to hand over a Letter of Credence.
Malaysiakini understands there could be a possible protocol issue if Tajuddin was formally introduced to key foreign allies before receiving his official appointment.
Once announced, Tajuddin is set to replace career diplomat Zainal Abidin Bakar who assumed the post on March 21, 2019. - Mkini
