Syed Saddiq To Know Verdict On Appeal To Overturn Conviction On June 25

Muar member of parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman will know in two months if he succeeds in his appeal to overturn his conviction and sentence linked to abetting criminal breach of trust (CBT), misappropriation of property and money laundering charges. - NSTP/EIZAIRI SHAMSUDINKUALA LUMPUR: Muar member of parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman will know in two months if he succeeds in his appeal to overturn his conviction and sentence linked to abetting criminal breach of trust (CBT), misappropriation of property and money laundering charges.
Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin said a panel of Court of Appeal CoA judges today set June 25 to deliver its verdict.
The date was fixed during case management today.
Previously, a panel of three judges led by Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim set three days to hear submissions from the prosecution and defence on Syed Saddiq's appeal after he was convicted and sentenced by the Kuala Lumpur High Court in November 2023.
Syed Saddiq,Syed Saddiq, 33, was sentenced to seven years in jail and two strokes of the rotan by the High Court after being found guilty of multiple charges, including abetting CBT, misappropriation of property, and money laundering.
He was sentenced to three years in jail and one stroke of the cane for abetting CBT involving RM1 million of Bersatu Youth (Armada)'s funds.
Syed Saddiq was also sentenced to two years in prison and one stroke of the cane for misusing RM120,000 from a Maybank Islamic Bhd account belonging to Armada Bumi Bersatu Enterprise.
Additionally, the High Court sentenced him to two years in prison and a RM10 million fine, with a default sentence of four years, for two money laundering charges.
However, the court ordered the sentences to run concurrently.
If the appeal succeeds, Syed Saddiq will be acquitted, although the prosecution can still appeal to the Federal Court.
If dismissed, Syed Saddiq will have one final opportunity to appeal to the Federal Court. - NST
