PETALING JAYA: Muar MP, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, arrived at the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya at 8:34am on Wednesday to attend his appeal case concerning the Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (Armada) funds.
The former President of the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) was accompanied by his family, a group of party leaders, and members.
The former Youth and Sports Minister was sentenced to seven years in prison, two strokes of the cane, and a fine of RM10mil for four offences related to the Armada funds.
Earlier, a group of supporters gathered at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya to show solidarity with Muda and Syed Saddiq, reported Sinar Harian.
Also present was the Member of the State Legislative Assembly of Merlimau, Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, who is also the acting President of Muda, as a sign of support for the former President of the party.
Syed Saddiq is facing four charges of criminal breach of trust, abuse of property, and money laundering related to the Armada funds.
The case will be decided after submissions at the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya, which will take place over two days on Wednesday (March 19) and Thursday (March 20).
This appeal proceeding is the second stage of the trial, and if he is found guilty, Syed Saddiq can still make a final appeal at the Federal Court.
However, if the panel of judges finds that the Johor-born politician does not dismiss the High Court's decision, he will be immediately freed from the charges. - Star
