Swcorp To Set Up More Drive Through Recycling Centres

The Federal Territories Solid Waste Management and Public Cleaning Corporation (SWCorp) aims to establish at least one drive-through recycling centre (DTRC) in each parliamentary constituency in Kuala Lumpur.
Its director Ummi Kalthum Shuib said it was an effort to facilitate the public to recycle and at the same time educate the community to reduce the amount of garbage sent to the landfill.
“In this regard, we welcome cooperation from private companies, government agencies or worship centres that have space to accommodate a DTRC as their corporate social responsibility (CSR).
“It does not need a big space, just enough to have a path for vehicles, easy to see and accessible to the public and able to accommodate recycling containers,” she told Bernama today.
She said so far, the service is available in two areas in Bukit Bintang, namely in Tiong Nam and Jalan Bunus 6, as well as in Precinct 5 in Putrajaya.
“In Wangsa Maju, we expect to open one at AEON Big in May and we are still looking for at least nine more locations for DTRC,” she said.
Ummi Kalthum said setting up of the DTRC was also part of efforts to increase the national recycling rate to 40 percent by 2025.
She added that the centres accept various materials including paper, aluminium, e-waste and used cooking oil starting at a price of RM0.10 up to RM4.00 per kg depending on the type of material.
Launched on Feb 22, DTRC is the rebranding of SWCorp Buy Back Centre to make it easier for people to recycle and be paid directly in cash.
